Bridal Showers to Honor The Bride To Be

36 Days tillIt is said that the bridal shower tradition began when women who wanted to marry an unsuitable husband were refused a dowry by their families.  Friends of the couple got together and pitch in to make up for the lack of a dowry – showering the future bride with gifts to prepare her to start her own household.  Today, a bridal shower is a fun way for friends and family to celebrate the future bride prior to the wedding.  The maid of honor hosts the bridal shower; however, sometimes all the gals – the maid of honor and the bridesmaids – gather together to split the costs and share in the planning.

Typically a bridal shower should take place anywhere from 6 months to the week before the wedding.  If many of the guests are traveling from out of town, it just makes sense to have it closer to the wedding.  Just make sure all the attendees are invited to the wedding itself.  And remember to invite close female relatives of both the bride and the groom, all the women in the wedding party, and the bride’s close friends.  Today bridal showers can be co-ed affairs, so don’t hesitate in going that direction as well.

Many friends of the bride have requested help with games and activities for the wedding shower and over the course of the next few days we will be publishing some of the more popular ones.  Learn more about favorite games such as “How Well Do You Know the Bride”,  “The Wedding Night”, “My Favorite Memory”, and the “Clothespin Game.”  And, like always, we encourage you to share with us and our readers, any games that you like.
